Surfing Fashion

Surfers clothing has been around for quite a few years now, but has become modern, trendy and desired by surfers and non surfers alike. The main aspect of surfing clothing is that it is casual and comfortable enough to wear boarding or surfing, but it also needs to be high performance to keep up with the demands of the sport.

Many of the main surf clothing brands take their inspiration from the worlds of surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding and are always on trend. Do you want to look like your favourite surfing, snowboarding or skateboarding star? No problem, just head for Billabong and get kitted out. It`s bought by many people – from surfers, boarders and skaters to your average man on the street whose idea of exercise can be lifting a pint. Some might see this as `fashion` clothing, rather than `surf` clothing and sure some of the accessories and t-shirts are more fashion based.

However, they also do an extensive range of boarding shorts, which are idea for surfing, as long as it`s not too cold! Boarding shorts are loose and comfortable, idea for the bending and stretching you need to do on the water, as well as having a lace fastening to ensure they stay up when out on the waves. The main change this season is in the colours, they are brightly coloured and patterned to ensure surfers stand out from the crowd. A big change in the last few seasons comes in surfboards themselves. Many surfers are now moving away from the modern day thruster boards, which are thinner three fin boards and are moving back towards the retro style boards. These boards emulate the shape of boards surfers had in the 60s and 70s and are thicker than modern boards. Many surfers are now experimenting with different shapes, thickness and fins on surfboards and the boards on sale this season reflect that. Surfing fashion draws a range of people and this is the reason for the Billabong success. What was once seen as `surfer fashion` is now a leading fashion brand accessible to and worn by everyone. And it`s for this reason that Billabong clothing will be around for many years to come. You may be hard pressed to find someone you know who surfs, but you can be sure they`ll own a piece of the Billabong range.
